Well we have entered the land we never wanted to visit, the land of seizures. Lauren started having seizures this week at school and at home, they came fast and furious. We have known that she is at great risk of them since she has severe brain damage but we were in our la la land of "she hasn't had one in 4 1/2 years why would she start now" Now that they have taken up residence we have a new situation to deal with and figure out. She seems to be having 2-4 a day that we and her teachers have noticed. She seizes anywhere from 10-30 seconds at a time. Sometimes she vomits, sometimes she doesn't. For me the vomitting is worse to watch since I am always afraid she is going to aspirate and choke or get pneumonia or stop breathing. I have been in contact with her WONDERFUL neurologist (she gave me her cell phone # and told me to call or text whenever and she is going away for the holidays, that is how wonderful she is). She has started her on another drug, Keppra, which is an anticonvulsant and should help stop or decrease the seizures and then most likely after the holidays we will be taking her to UCLA for a 2-3 hr EEG to see if we can record her brain during a seizure.
Keep us in your thoughts as we travel into our new land. Not the Christmas present we were hoping for this year or any year.

Great pictures of the girls! Looks as though the neighbor kids had a fun evening. Yes, too bad it was so late that Lauren and Alison and Skylor were to bed! Especially love the picture of Alison with Santa. I can see that Skylor is now into everything - - looks like she is enjoying herself! Not a good land for Lauren and you folks to be into. Let's hope and pray that the good doctor will get to the bottom of the problem and find medication to keep things in control. I send you all my moral support and wish I could be there to help! Lauren is probably unaware of what is happening to her, and perhaps it is just as well. We pray she will suffer neither pain nor injury during her seizures. You will soon learn what you have to do to keep her safe. Events are likely to become less frightening and more routine with time. Our landlord's daughter on Sheldon Rd. near Ithaca has occasional seizures, is married, and manages to take a few courses at community college every year as she is unemployed and on disability. Every case is different and Lauren is unique in so many ways. It is heartening to learn that you have a sympathetic neurologist. Let's hope the new medication ameliorates the events.
