News...

Lauren gave us quite the scare a few weekends ago. Aaron was carrying her he started yelling for me that something was wrong with Lauren. When I got to them she was ashen colored and her eyes were rolling back in her head. Aaron said she started grinding her teeth really hard and then her head dropped back and then her eyes started rolling. We immediately starting yelling at her and and patting her back and chest to stimulate her and she came right back and actually smiled and turned pink. We immediately contacted her neurologist since all we could think was she had a seizure, she has never experienced one so we could only imagine this is what it was. I also told the Dr. that she just started taking a new drug Amitriptyline for her gagging. The GI dr said it reacts with the central nervous system in her gut, but when the neurologist heard this she was not happy and advised us to wean her off it immediately. She said that mixed with her muscle relaxer is to much sedatives in her system. Amitriptyline in larger doses is an anti-depressant but Lauren was only taking a 2.5 mg 2x a day so it was only supposed to help reduce her gag reflex, which it didn't work anyway. So we are assuming that is what the reaction was not the start of seizures, although the neurologist didn't rule that possibility out either.

Then I took both girls for their semi-annual trip to the ortho dr last week and he was a little worried about Lauren's right hip, she has a mild subluxation (dislocation) which was discovered in an x-ray taken for her upper GI study in January. Anyway, he wants her to start wearing a hip abduction brace only at night to keep her hip flexors from tightening anymore. Alison did fine, although she was having one of her tired temper tantrums and instead of showing the doctor her new walking skills, she decided to throw herself on the floor and clean it with her tears. So the dr never did see her walk :0( Oh well......

While we were at the orthro, Lauren's GI doctor was in the office (Children's hospital satellite office) and we were able to sneak in a few minutes with him to discuss the possible oversedation Lauren experienced. So we both decided that it was time to do the surgery to repair her hiatal hernia, bowel malrotation and insert a g-tube for feeding. She just cannot consistently take in enough calories or liquid she needs. On a good day she may have 6-10 bites of food and drink 10-14 oz of high calorie formula, but that is rare. Most days she eats no food and takes in about 5-8 oz of formula and when she is sick it is very scary how little she intakes. So after 3 years of ripping my hair out to feed her 3-4 times a day, I will happy to have an alternative way to nurish and hydrate my girl. So we meet with the surgeon on June 26, this doctor is known for non-invasive surgery. We are so scared to put her thru the surgery and recovery, so hopefully he will be able to put our minds at ease. I will keep you posted on that...

Onto happier things.....Taylor will be graduating from preschool next week and then she will be taking a summer school Kindergarten prep class thru the school district the month of July from 8-12 and then the first week of August she and her best friend Jessica are going to dance camp. We went to go pay for camp today and she told me "Mommy Jessica and I are going to dance in the woods" and I excuse me and she said "it's dance camp and it's in the woods" Well I finally did convince her she would be dancing in the studio. How funny.

Taylor also has a new past time...Snails....yes snails. She gathers them all together and has parties with them and insists they are all friends. She names most them "Gary" , he is the snail in the cartoon "Sponge Bob Square Pants"

Taylor also had her best friend Jessica over to play last Wednesday for the whole day, they had so much fun. Taylor was more excited the night before her playdate then she was on Christmas Eve. Here they are playing a video and decorating cupcakes as Sleeping Beauty and Ariel. And of course pulling/riding in the big red wagon. (Thanks Aunt Laura, awesome gift that is much used and loved by all!!!)

And lastly, we took the gang for one last trip to Disneyland this past Sunday. We had lots of fun and Lauren loves the Peter Pan and Pirates of the Caribean ride, it is so cute she immediatly starts looking around an cooing. We all had fun but we never took any pictures. Oh well they are in my memory for a lifetime. (sorry mom I know you hate when I say that)
